AMERICAN STERLING BY WHITING : VICTORIAN STEM GOBLET

circa 1880's - 1890's; gilded age, in the "Aesthetic" taste. ... the period when Whiting competed with Tiffany for the finest name in prestige trophies and fine silver.

Original richly gold-lined interior;

campana / modified bell-shape bowl, series of concentric turnings between bowl, stem and foot

Banded rim is bordered by alternating engraved ACANTHUS & ROSETTE motives, with fine hand-textured details.

Height : 6-3/4”

Weight : 4.9 troy ounces

Histroy of the Whiting company.
founded 1840 by William D. Whiting and Albert Tiftt; after various partnerships became Whiting Mfg.Co. in 1866, in North Attleboro Massachusetts, later Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Purchased 1926 by Gorham, Providence, RI.
