Walnut slant-front one-drawer Lady's Desk,Provincial or Colonial French  Louis XVI style, circa 1790's

primary wood :  walnut 
secondary woods :  satinwood or related light color interior drawer fronts outlined in ebony stringing 
inlays :  ebony stringing 
 
Fall board : shaped & outlined in ebony stringing, opens with key.  
 
One rectangular long drawer  below fall board, opens on key, wreath escutcheon, drawer front with ebony stringing 
 
Hardware :  two bowknot & wreath cast brass keyhole escutcheons, matching.  Fall front and drawer retain old, probably original, locks. 
  
Interior :  4 drawers, aligned in pairs, each pair stepped back below an open shelf.  pairs are separated & flanked by shaped divider/supports. 
 
Legs :  straight tapered, with distinctive stop-fluting,in tight pattern of grains (or braiding) above continued fluting.  Front pair fully carved four sides; back pair match on three sides, but are flat on back.
